Women Who Can Backdrop Writing.jpg

As part of our Chapter New Campaign, our Thriving Beyond Fatherlessness Programme aims to empower and support young women in Leicester / Leicestershire who have experienced challenging periods in their lives due to the absence of an active father figure.

Thriving Beyond Fatherlessness

In Leicester/Leicestershire, many young women have either experienced or are currently experiencing fatherlessness, leaving them with a feeling that an important piece in their lives is missing. When we say fatherlessness, we mean the absence of a father or father-figure bond/relationship due to a variety of reasons, such as divorce/ separation, death, rejection, prison, addiction, emotional absence and more.

One of the main reasons why fatherlessness has such a huge impact, especially on girls and young women, is due to the gender norm world we live in. Due to this, we are often disempowered to take on stereotypically male roles, like DIY or Car Maintenance, thus stunting our personal and professional growth.

The What: Problem Statement

Our founder, Sadé Paul-Henry, knows all too well about the impact of fatherlessness, especially in the practical skills space. She has lived experience and has connected with others with shared lived experience. Now, she would like to help others experiencing something similar thrive beyond fatherlessness.

This is also backed by research, which shows that women can overcome experiences like this when engaging in supportive communities and guided programs, compared to those who face these challenges alone.

The Why: Valuable Insight

Our Thriving Beyond Fatherlessness Programme will introduce engaging workshops such as Car Care Basics, DIY Home Repairs, and Preparing for Emergencies to empower young women with vital life skills commonly associated with roles a father may do or teach their children that girls are often disempowered to take part in.

During these practical sessions, women are guided by experienced session leaders and supported by inspiring role models. They will gain access to a lived-experience community network, which aims to develop long-lasting confidence and independence in our participants.
