Women Who Can Backdrop Writing.jpg

As part of our Chapter New Campaign, our Employability Empowerment Programme aims to uplift and guide young women in Leicester/Leicestershire through the complexities of the modern job market. The workshops within this programme are designed to create a supportive environment where women can grow professionally, regardless of the challenges they may have faced previously.

Employability Empowerment Programme

In Leicester/Leicestershire, many young women find themselves facing a brick wall when it comes to starting or advancing their careers. Being a young person or a woman in the workplace is hard, but the unique intersectional issues of being a young woman in the workplace is especially challenging in today’s world.

This is before even adding some of the socio-economic factors that have been commonly associated with barriers towards thriving in the workplace.

The What: Problem Statement

The Employability Empowerment programme is close to the hearts of both our founder, Sadé Paul-Henry and trustee Pri Mistry, as they have the lived experience, and have also heard of many young women who have experienced challenges in the workplace specifically to their youth and gender combined.

Although women’s networks do exist, there’s not enough that focus specifically on the unique challenges young women face, and studies have consistently shown that tailored employability programmes that address niche issues can dramatically help women thrive in the workplace, especially when they’re designed, developed and delivered by the people experiencing it.

The Why: Valuable Insight

Our Employability Empowerment Programme addresses the current challenges that young women have identified within their employment journeys and provides support to recognise and overcome them through a series of engaging female-led workshops. In addition to supporting young women with ongoing challenges such as applying for jobs or understanding and negotiating your work contract, our workshops will focus on unique areas tailored to this group, like how to deal with reverse ageism and other microaggressions.

Each attendee will gain access to a lived-experience community network, which aims to develop long-lasting confidence and independence in our participants.
